Transformations
Decluttering is so much more than just reorganizing a room or clearing out junk. It’s an emotional journey—a process that asks us to dig deep, confront memories, release old fears, and step into a space of calm and freedom. Over the past year, I’ve been on a mission to reclaim my home, crafting spaces that bring joy and peace. But there was one area that still held a lot of anxiety for me: the garage.
For months, the garage was a place I dreaded. Each time I opened that door, I felt overwhelmed and defeated. Clutter had piled up so high that the mere thought of tackling it made me want to turn around. But last weekend, something shifted. I made a decision that I didn’t want to live with that feeling anymore. I took a deep breath, gathered my courage, and took the first step toward transforming that space.
The garage wasn’t just messy—it had become a physical manifestation of stress and avoidance. It was the room where misplaced items, forgotten boxes, and seasonal odds and ends had come to rest. Each time I looked at it, I felt the weight of unfinished tasks and decisions I hadn’t made. It was daunting.
I knew that the clutter and anxiety tied to this space weren’t serving me or my family. I gave myself permission to seek help, break down the process, and take it one small, manageable step at a time.
As I began to work through the clutter, something amazing happened. Each item I released, each task I completed, brought me closer to a sense of peace and purpose. Here’s what I’m most proud of from this experience:
Clearing the Boat Storage: Our boat had unintentionally become a storage spot for pool gear, forgotten boxes, and random items. Sorting through it was a challenge, but with every item I let go of, a bit of that emotional weight lifted. Seeing the boat clear and purposeful again was incredibly rewarding.
Reaching the Central Vac Bin: The central vacuum had been almost impossible to reach because of all the clutter. Finally emptying it felt like a small but mighty victory—a reminder that even the little wins are worth celebrating.
Creating Intentional Zones: We hung up bikes and organized seasonal items, placing pool supplies at the back of the garage. These changes made the space more functional, and seeing those clear, intentional zones helped me feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
Though there are still a few boxes left from my parents’ move, I’m learning to embrace progress over perfection. It’s not about finishing everything in one go; it’s about consistently moving forward.
The emotional hurdles were real, and they crept up often. I wrestled with thoughts like “What if I need this someday?” or “This was expensive, so I should keep it” and even “What will people think if they see a bin in my driveway?” But I reminded myself that my space should serve me—not hold me back.
I leaned into the lessons I’ve learned along the way: it’s okay to let go, and memories or value don’t disappear just because an item does. One question that grounded me through this process was: Does this item support the life I want to create? Answering that question helped me let go of what no longer served me and stay focused on my vision for a calm, organized, and functional garage.
Decluttering the garage was more than just a physical transformation; it was a way of reclaiming a space that had been a source of anxiety and turning it into a place of potential and purpose. This journey showed me that I am capable of tackling something overwhelming by breaking it down into small, manageable steps. And each step, no matter how small, was progress worth celebrating.
Support from others made a huge difference. Having family, friends, and even a community that cheered me on gave me the encouragement I needed to keep going, especially in those moments of doubt.
This process brought me so much pride, not only in the transformation of the space but in the personal growth that came with it. The garage is no longer a place I avoid. Instead, it represents progress, resilience, and hope. Even with a few boxes left to sort through, I know that I’m moving forward—and that’s what matters most.
Decluttering can be emotionally taxing, but it’s also empowering. It’s a reminder that we have the power to shape our surroundings—and our lives—in ways that truly serve us. If you’re staring down a space that feels too cluttered or overwhelming, know that you’re not alone. Take it one step at a time, give yourself grace, and remember that progress, not perfection, is the goal.
When doubt sneaks in, think about the feeling you’re working toward: freedom, calm, and joy. Because that’s what we all deserve—in our homes and in our hearts.

''I highly recommend her for your
next organizational project!''
''Everyone needs a non-judgmental “best friend” who will work shoulder-to-shoulder with you as you work toward your organizational goals. Julie is that best friend. In the kindest and gentlest way, Julie helped me work through a large project in smaller, more manageable tasks. She kept me focused on the task at hand, dealing with both the physical and emotional attachment I had with some of the items I had held on to for much too long. Whether it’s a short-term or long-term project, Julie can help you get to the finish line! I highly recommend her for your next organizational project!'' - Kathy
''She opened my mind to new tools and strategies into my daily life''
''My experience with Julie was incredible. She is a kind, calming, safe space. I enjoyed the exercise we did together. It really help me view my emotions from a different perspective. She knew what questions to ask and how to help me analyze my feelings. She’s educated in what she does. I would love to do it again with her!! She opened my mind to new tools and strategies into my daily life. ❤️❤️❤️''- Kate
''It quickly gave me perspective on how I allow my emotions take control''
''The exercise was quick and effective. It quickly gave me perspective on how I allow my emotions take control. It’s interesting how I had immediate answers to the questions I was asked. I can only speak for myself, but this changed my thoughts for that day and I was present. I did continue to think about the exercise the following day and tried to remember how I felt when I answered the questions. I believe it was effective. I plan on using that exercise or at least remember what I answered when I feel like I’m spiraling or overthinking my thoughts'' - Maritza
''I feel about myself and take care of myself is related to so many aspects of my life, including my relationships and decluttering my home.''
''Being in this community with Julie’s guidance has helped me to understand about Self Care and Self Love, two concepts that were very foreign to me. I get it know, and I’m learning more all the time about how the way I feel about myself and take care of myself is related to so many aspects of my life, including my relationships and decluttering my home.'' - Laura
