Transformations
Our spare room had slowly turned into what I like to call the "stash and dash" room. You know, the space where everything gets tossed when you don’t know where else to put it? It had become a catch-all for random things, and while we had mostly emptied it out, it was clear the room needed some serious love before my sister’s visit next week. Plus, I wanted it to be a welcoming retreat for my niece whenever she needs a break from university and wants to be around family. 🤗
The best part? We did the entire transformation without buying a single new thing. We relied on what we already had—just a lot of love, creativity, and elbow grease!
When we first started tackling the room, it was still filled with all sorts of random items that didn’t belong there—tools from past projects, clothes that hadn’t been put away, and odds and ends scattered across the floor and dresser. The walls needed patching, and we knew we had some work ahead of us to turn this space into something cozy and inviting.
But instead of running out to buy new furniture or decor, we committed to working with what we already had. With some effort and a bit of creative thinking, we knew we could make the room feel fresh and ready for guests.
Here’s the step-by-step breakdown of how we transformed this room without spending a dime:
First things first, we patched up the walls where needed and gave them a fresh coat of paint. We extended the painting to the hallway to tie the areas together, making everything feel brighter and more open. Honestly, there’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to instantly transform a space—it’s so simple yet so satisfying!
Next, we tackled the clutter on the floor. We sorted through everything—deciding what to keep, donate, or move to its proper place. It took some time, but once we tackled it all in one go, the space felt instantly clearer and more open.
The top of the dresser had become another clutter magnet, so we took a few minutes to clear it off and find homes for everything. Now, instead of chaos, it holds a few meaningful items, and the room feels so much more organized and peaceful.
We gave the bed a refresh by washing the sheets and making it up, getting it nice and cozy for our guests. Freshly laundered bedding always adds an extra level of comfort to any room, making it feel even more welcoming.
After vacuuming and cleaning the floors, we hung the chair back up and moved all the tools back to the garage where they belong. Finally, we repurposed a carpet we already had, which added warmth and coziness to the room, making it feel more complete.
The most rewarding part of this project? We didn’t need to buy anything new. By using what we already owned and making thoughtful decisions, we were able to transform the space into something fresh and inviting. It’s a great reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity and elbow grease to make a space feel brand new.
Now, the spare room is a cozy, peaceful retreat for my sister during her stay, and it’s ready for my niece whenever she needs a break from university life. Knowing that we made it happen with what we had on hand feels so satisfying.
We still have a few finishing touches to add, like final decorating, but overall, I’m beyond happy with how it turned out. The room is organized, inviting, and ready for guests—without spending a single extra dollar!

''I highly recommend her for your
next organizational project!''
''Everyone needs a non-judgmental “best friend” who will work shoulder-to-shoulder with you as you work toward your organizational goals. Julie is that best friend. In the kindest and gentlest way, Julie helped me work through a large project in smaller, more manageable tasks. She kept me focused on the task at hand, dealing with both the physical and emotional attachment I had with some of the items I had held on to for much too long. Whether it’s a short-term or long-term project, Julie can help you get to the finish line! I highly recommend her for your next organizational project!'' - Kathy
''She opened my mind to new tools and strategies into my daily life''
''My experience with Julie was incredible. She is a kind, calming, safe space. I enjoyed the exercise we did together. It really help me view my emotions from a different perspective. She knew what questions to ask and how to help me analyze my feelings. She’s educated in what she does. I would love to do it again with her!! She opened my mind to new tools and strategies into my daily life. ❤️❤️❤️''- Kate
''It quickly gave me perspective on how I allow my emotions take control''
''The exercise was quick and effective. It quickly gave me perspective on how I allow my emotions take control. It’s interesting how I had immediate answers to the questions I was asked. I can only speak for myself, but this changed my thoughts for that day and I was present. I did continue to think about the exercise the following day and tried to remember how I felt when I answered the questions. I believe it was effective. I plan on using that exercise or at least remember what I answered when I feel like I’m spiraling or overthinking my thoughts'' - Maritza
''I feel about myself and take care of myself is related to so many aspects of my life, including my relationships and decluttering my home.''
''Being in this community with Julie’s guidance has helped me to understand about Self Care and Self Love, two concepts that were very foreign to me. I get it know, and I’m learning more all the time about how the way I feel about myself and take care of myself is related to so many aspects of my life, including my relationships and decluttering my home.'' - Laura
